An Overview of AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2 6 hours$150.00

This online course prepares participants to design instruction for, and teach, the AP Physics 1 and/or AP Physics 2 courses. Through videos, readings, and activities, participants will explore the structure of the courses and appropriate instructional strategies to use while teaching. Topics include: aligning instruction with the AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2 Curriculum Framework, identifying what skills and knowledge the exams assess, using backward design in the development of inquiry-based lessons, incorporating reasoning tasks to develop students’ conceptual understanding of physics principles, and exploring the AP Course Audit curricular requirements. By completing this course, participants will gain and strengthen the ability to adapt their current classroom curriculum to help students meet the goals of the AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2 courses.

 

Using Technology to Support the Goals of AP Calculus 6 hours$99

Developed in partnership with Texas Instruments, this course investigates the use of graphing technology to develop the mathematical practices and skills necessary for success in AP Calculus. Technology offers students the opportunity to explore mathematical ideas in ways that allow them to better understand core calculus concepts. This online course will provide teachers with practice lessons in which technology supports deeper conceptual understanding by students and facilitates more effective instructional approaches within the classroom. Participants will gain and strengthen the ability to adapt their current classroom curriculum with graphing technology to help students meet the goals of AP Calculus. Eligible for .6 CEU credits.

 

An Overview of AP Chemistry 6 hours$150

This course provides AP Chemistry teachers with a review of the AP Chemistry course and concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective curriculum. Participants will explore the AP Chemistry Curriculum Framework, summative and formative assessments, inquiry-based teaching practices, practice exams and tools available for syllabus development. Participants will finish the course with the ability to confidently create a syllabus that incorporates the curriculum framework and inquiry-based teaching practices. Eligible for .6 CEU credits.

 

AP Chemistry: Transitioning to Inquiry-Based Labs 6 hours$150

Inquiry-based labs allow students to engage in science practices that require them to think and act like scientists. This online course will provide AP Chemistry teachers with a means to understand inquiry and its place in the classroom. Participants will analyze how traditional labs differ from inquiry-based labs and investigate a system they can use to modify traditional labs to make them inquiry-based. Participants will obtain the ability to confidently create inquiry-based labs for immediate use in their classrooms. Eligible for .6 CEU credits.
